Being more than 100 years old, Rothbury House is from another era. Dignified and rich in character retaining many of the period features including ornate ceilings, cast iron fireplaces with marble surrounds, timber floors, bull nose verandahs and ceiling rosettes. From the moment you walk through the door you will be overcome with a vision of what could be. An imaginative personal touch is all that is needed to fulfill the enormous potential that this delightful home has to offer.

Rothbury House is not only a beautiful turn-of-the-century home with enormous street appeal but has historic significance, as well as a change of usage. It's gone from being a large family home into 2 separate apartments, a 3 bedroom and a 2 bedroom which could easily be converted back into the grand home it once was. Or Rothbury House could suit the astute investor or why not keep one apartment for yourself and let the other one.

Beyond its traditional facade lies a spacious & inviting classic home. The rooms are well proportioned and have that early 1900's charm. With a superb selection of living and dining areas, some of those rooms feature open fireplaces whilst others have French doors that open out onto the entertaining deck which takes in some lovely ocean views. The bull nose verandah allows the ease of combining indoor and outdoor living.

Rothbury is part of the history of three significant Kiama families. The house was built around the turn of the 19th century for Walter Cocks on land belonging to his wife, Cecilia Hindmarsh, whose family had owned a large part of the Collins Street hillside since 1872. Walter was a storekeeper and became Captain of Kiama Fire Brigade. He was the brother of R. Sidney Cocks, the artist, and Samuel Cocks, the photographer. Samuel also married a Hindmarsh, Cecilia's sister Elizabeth.

Rothbury was subsequently the home of Harold Lyons who was Town Clerk from 1937 to 1967.
